About the Designbrarian
More about me... |
I am an Librarian working in a smallish library. As many of you know from experience, small libraries are amazing and they require the staff to be flexible and versatile in what they do. When you work at a small library you have a lot of opportunities to learn a diverse range of skills you may not need to have in a larger more specialized work environment.
It is never boring. I work the circulation desk, shelve books, answer questions, plan and lead programs, process and catalog children's materials, and that's just for the children's department. I am also on the Tech team, and I am responsible for a large portion of the library's graphic design. Man, I just sound so cool right now, like I can do anything. I am a super Librarian and my cape is fluttering proudly in the face of challenge. The truth is that everyone I work with has a diverse set of skills and responsibilities, making us all pretty super. You don't start out with all these skills when you start the job and sometimes balancing all of these responsibilities can become overwhelming. I started this blog because I want to help you, my fellow library staff, who may not have been trained in graphic design, but find yourselves responsible for creating posters, signs and other graphic elements at your library, and I want to connect you with resources that I found useful. |
I have 2 cats, which totally qualifies me as a cool person. Their names are Carmello and Custard. One of them is evil. I'll let you guess which one. I always wear cardigans at work to fend off the frigid air conditioning, another librarian staple. I enjoy hot tea, especially spicy chai masala and double bergamot earl grey. And I have a habit of collecting enamel pins which I proudly wear on my cardigans. I have traveled to the other side of the world, picked tea in china, walked through the 1,000 torii gates of the Fushimi Inari shrine and visited Stonehenge. I run the Indie Pin Database which catalogs information about original pins by independent artists. I am also an illustrator and share my printable paper dolls and crafts on my Ko-fi page.
